Education Auction Continues to Set New Records!

The Annual Snohomish Education Foundation Auction held November 17, 2007 at the Everett Golf and Country Club raised a record $98,000—$25,000 more than last year and nearly doubled the amount raised since 2005!

Celebrating its 21st year of operation, the Education Foundation raises funds for Snohomish school children to pay for classroom grants, college scholarships for SHS grads that otherwise would not have the means to further their education, and programs that support students with special needs.

Foundation Director Virginia Becker said, “We are so grateful for the overwhelming support for education.  We had great volunteers who made it fun organizing this auction and it paid off by allowing us to raise the money we need to continue supporting education in Snohomish and providing a wonderful evening we all enjoyed!  I appreciated hearing the raving reviews about the food, auction items, the people, the auctioneers and the venue!”  A heartfelt thanks to our generous donors, including our Major Gift Sponsors, First Heritage Bank, Chinook Lumber, & Damar Machines and our Supporting Sponsors, Bickford Motors and the Beresford Company.

The non-profit organization was established in 1986 by Snohomish citizens who recognized the need for greater support of public schools.  Since that time, Becker said, “The Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to enrich the lives of Snohomish children.  This year alone, we’ve provided $16,000 in classroom grants and more than $57,000 in student scholarships. Since 1996, the Foundation has awarded $154,300 in classroom grants and $276,500 in scholarships for SHS grads.”

The November 17 gala event included music, dinner, raffles, and both a silent and live auction.   Goods and services donated by area businesses and residents and auctioned at the event included Family Trips, Gourmet Dinners, a Birthday Pool Party, Fishing Trips, Texas Hold ‘Em Party, Special Wines, a Variety of Gift Baskets from Local Schools, and more.  Attendees donated $13,550 specifically for Classroom Grants to fund materials or activities not covered by the regular school budget.

Becker also urged the community to attend the Foundation’s annual Walk-a-Thon fundraiser May 3^rd at

the SHS Memorial Stadium.
