The Foundation awarded Snohomish High School additional grants for a Portable Microphone System the SHS Choir can use for community performances, Mini Router to use in the CADD & Precision Machining Pathway Program, Superscope CD Recorder for the music department, a Forensic Sculpture Kit for students to learn about the bone and muscle structure of the human skull, and much more.

Virginia Becker, the Foundation Executive Director, said, “We wish to thank community members who attended our annual auction last year and to our many supporters.  With their help, we were able to raise additional funds to support our teachers in offering a higher quality education to our students.  We appreciate their assistance in making a difference in our students’ lives and the community as a whole.

“Our hope is to continue to make a positive impact on the students in Snohomish through the classroom grants.  It was exciting to have more teachers aware of the grants and how to apply this year.  We are always looking for opportunities to increase awareness and funding for the classroom grants.  If you have a suggestion or would like to get involved with the Foundation, please contact us through email or phone listed below.  You can also learn more about our grant process by visiting our website at snohomisheducationfoundation.org.”

The Snohomish Education Foundation

2008 Grants

What is the Grant Program?

The Grant program provides a limited number of grants which are awarded to individuals employed in the Snohomish School District, on a competitive basis, for special and worthy projects that are of benefit to students.  Grants normally go to support classrooms and may be requested for up to $750.00.  In limited circumstances, where partner funding sources have been approached, the Foundation may award a grant up to $1500.00.  The Foundation makes an attempt to balance awards across all schools in the Snohomish School District.

How Awards Are Made

Each project proposal will be evaluated for its

(1) innovative and educational nature

(2) realistic goals

(3) benefit to students

(4) reasonable budget

(5) clarity – applications can be typed or handwritten, but should be professional in appearance.  Applications are reviewed by lay people, so be clear and concise and avoid or explain jargon to help the Committee understand the value of your project.

Additional Criteria in Reviewing Applications.

  • Is there another resource available to fund the proposal and if so have they been approached?  (Projects which can be funded by PTA’s, PTO’s, or booster clubs should first apply to those organizations for funding.)

  • Is proposal for components of the Snohomish School District’s general curriculum?  (Funding for basic curriculum supplies & materials is the district’s responsibility.)

  • Is proposal for an area that the Snohomish School District may not support with existing curriculum budget?  (E.g., the arts, foreign language, history, vocational training.)

  • Is there a specific plan with timeline to measure and report success achieved?

  • Projects for innovative materials and/or equipment, will be viewed favorably, and may be funded by the Foundation, with the understanding that if the project is a success, the Snohomish School District may pick up future funding.  Similar projects may not be automatically funded from year to year.

  • Does this request qualify for specific reserved SEF funds set aside to address health and special needs students?

  • While projects are evaluated independently by the Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3), the Foundation does require building Principal approval district for each request.

Follow-up Evaluation

Upon the project's completion, each grant recipient will be expected to submit a short written evaluation and budget report.  In addition to your evaluation, the Foundation will submit to you a supplemental evaluation which should be returned not later than October 1st following the grant award.
